Change is the new normal.

Strategy work seeks to ensure an organisation's future viability and to realise long-term goals in a volatile environment. Now more than ever, the best strategies are of no use if they cannot prevail in the conflicting arenas of consistent implementation and rapid changes in plans, of adaptive learning and a steady vision. This makes it imperative to do more than merely develop strategies, and instead requires implementing them stringently and with lasting impact, while also continually adapting them to the ever-changing circumstances. It is just as pivotal to get other people fired up about common goals, to help them feel secure, and to motivate them to take an active part in shaping change. In four intensive modules, this course covers issues ranging from integrated strategy development to successful implementation using project and process management. In addition to conventional methods, agile approaches and their potential applications are examined in the context of strategies, projects, and processes.

  • You will gain well founded expertise for effective strategic work and will refine your know-how by working through concrete practical examples.
  • Project and process management skills will significantly boost your confidence in implementing the measures necessary to achieve defined strategic objectives.
  • Using the fundamental techniques of lateral leadership, which are based on communication, motivation, and team development, you will examine your personal management style and learn how to strengthen your leadership acceptance and steer change processes efficiently.
  • These new skills will enable you to actively shape and consistently implement strategic processes, and to create an environment that can accommodate new conditions and changing requirements – without losing sight of tomorrow's goals.
  • The proven didactic concept – theoretical and practical input coupled with exercises, reflection, and discussion – as well as the practical orientation of the training phases and the technical background of the course participants guarantee a high degree of professionalism, and the modular structure also leaves you room to put what you have learned directly into action in your day-to-day work.

Target group

  • Managing directors, executive managers, internal business development specialists, project managers, as well as technical specialists with strategic responsibilities
  • (Future) managers
  • Business planning specialists and (in-house) consultants seeking to improve their management-related skills

Structure and subject matter

MODULE I – Strategy development
Strategy | Structure | Culture. All organisational development processes involve an integrated approach to these three aspects. And these three objects of consideration also shape the conceptual framework of this course.
One question that invariably arises within strategic management is why certain organisations are more successful than others, what their unique selling propositions (USPs) are, and what sets them apart from the competition. Accordingly, strategic management focuses on the analysis, planning, and implementation of an organisation's substantive objectives and orientation.
The Strategic Management module focuses on a thorough examination of the methods for handling a strategy development process, such as formulating fundamental strategic objectives, implementing conclusive analyses, deriving strategies and measures to achieve the defined strategic objectives, as well as strategy controlling as a basic component of strategic management.

  • Strategic management: definition, approaches, and barriers
  • Design and logic of a strategy development process
  • The SWOT analysis – a central strategy development instrument
  • An overview of the strategy tools for internal and external analysis
  • Agile approaches to strategy development: business modelling
  • Strategy implementation in iterations

MODULE II – Project management
This module deals with creating effective structures for implementing defined strategic measures and managing projects, programmes, and portfolios. You will become familiar with viable concepts for the structuring and strategic controlling of project portfolios, enabling you to gear these activities towards the business goals of your company and establish efficient multi-project controlling structures.

  • Strategy implementation with projects, programmes, and portfolios
  • Managing projects successfully: methods, instruments, and processes
  • Agile project management – scrum and hybrid approaches
  • The project-oriented organisation
  • Managing the strategy portfolio

MODULE III – Process management
This module focuses on the success factors for effective and efficient business processes. With solid expertise in identifying, designing, and optimising processes together with an understanding of how process management can be lastingly anchored in the company, you will be able to tackle challenges head on, structure necessary changes in a targeted way, and thus increase transparency, clarity, commitment, and motivation for accomplishing these tasks.

  • Aligning processes with the corporate strategy
  • Process life cycle: identification, analysis, optimisation, and anchoring
  • Implementing process organisations
  • Process indicators and benchmarks
  • Agile process management: Kanban and lean management
  • The process-oriented organisation

MODULE IV – Social competence
In this module, you will learn the essential techniques of lateral leadership, communication, motivation, and team development. You will discover which framework conditions a cross-functional, autonomous, and self-organised team needs and how you can provide security in the face of transformation and motivate people to take an active part in shaping change.

  • Requirements for project and process managers
  • Leadership without managerial authority
  • The phases of team development
  • Communication and motivation
  • Leadership in agile organisations
  • Sharing a vision and bringing it to life
  • Resistance to change: where it comes from and how to handle it
  • Dissolving beliefs
